Ken Cruse - Founding Partner & CEO
Ken Cruse is Founding Partner & CEO of Alpha Wave Investors, LLC ("Alpha Wave") and Soul Community Planet, LLC ("SCP").
Prior to forming Alpha Wave, with partners Jordan Fisher and David Sloan, Mr. Cruse was Chief Executive Officer and a director of Sunstone Hotel Investors (“Sunstone"), a ~$5 billion total enterprise value publicly traded REIT (NYSE: SHO). Mr. Cruse joined Sunstone April 2005 as Senior Vice President—Asset Management, and was appointed Senior Vice President—Corporate Finance on September 1, 2006, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on January 1, 2007, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on February 18, 2010, President and Chief Financial Officer on December 17, 2010 and as President and Chief Executive Officer and a director on August 5, 2011.
For the eight years prior to joining Sunstone, Mr. Cruse worked in a variety of roles for Host Marriott Corporation, the predecessor of Host Hotels and Resorts, Inc., most recently as Vice President, Corporate Finance.
Mr. Cruse is actively involved in various industry and professional organizations. He is a former member of the board of directors of Morgans Hotel Group (Nasdaq: MHGC). Additionally, Mr. Cruse is a member of GenNext and the Southern California Chapter of Young Presidents Organization. He is also a member of the Dean's Advisory Council for Colorado State University Warner College of Natural Resources. He previously served as a director of the American Hotel & Lodging Association ("AH&LA"), and has been a member of the Executive Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and CEO Council for AH&LA. Mr. Cruse is also a past member of the Real Estate Roundtable.
Mr. Cruse is a member of the board of directors for Miracles for kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving children with life-threatening illnesses and the families that care for them. Mr. Cruse holds a B.S. degree from Colorado State University and an M.B.A. degree with honors from Georgetown University.
Mr. Cruse brings a deep knowledge of all aspects of real estate investment, asset management, finance and operations along with proven experience of generating superior investor returns as a CEO of a large, highly successful public company.
During Cruse’s tenure as CEO of Sunstone (August 2011 through Mid-January 2015), the company:
- reduced its leverage by more than any other lodging REIT,
- acquired over $1 billion of high quality hotels,
- sold over $300 million of legacy hotels,
- enhanced the competitive positioning of its portfolio through a comprehensive, well-timed renovation program,
- was consistently ranked among the Best Workplaces and the Fastest Growing Public Companies in Orange County, and
Under Cruse’s leadership Sunstone’s shareholders realized a +200% cumulative return – meaningfully outperforming its lodging REIT peers - Host Hotels and Resorts, LaSalle Hotel Properties, and DiamondRock Hospitality Company.
Jordan Fisher - Founding Partner & CEO of NextWave Property Management
Jordan Fisher is a Founding Partner of Alpha Wave Investors ("Alpha Wave") and Soul Community Planet, LLC ("SCP"). He is also the manager for Alpha Wave Residential (providing primary oversight of Alpha Wave Investors’ multifamily investments) and is CEO of Next Wave Property Management. He has more than twelve years of experience acquiring, redeveloping and managing multifamily properties. Through a private investment fund oversees a portfolio of nine properties consisting of over 300 units throughout Southern California and Las Vegas. Mr. Fisher was founder and CEO of TPG Consulting, LLC, a web development and digital marketing company. Since its founding in 2007, he has overseen growth from two employees to over 110 with revenues over $21.5 M. TPG was recognized as an INC 500 company as well as one the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 100 fastest growing private companies. In 2014, after running the company for over 7 years he successfully sold the company to a Beijing based multi-national Business Services Firm. Prior to founding TPG, Mr. Fisher worked at Deloitte Consulting and was a Captain in the US Army. Mr. Fisher is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and earned his MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Business.
Jordan Fisher is a licensed Real Estate Broker and is a member of the California Association of Realtors.
Mr. Sloan is Founding Partner of Alpha Wave Investors, LLC (“Alpha Wave”) and Soul Community Planet, LLC ("SCP"). Prior to founding Alpha Wave, Mr. Sloan served as Senior Vice President – General Counsel of Sunstone Hotel Investors, Inc. (“Sunstone”), where he handled all legal functions, including securities matters and real estate transactions. Mr. Sloan joined Sunstone in February 2007 as Corporate Counsel and served in such capacity until February 2010. From February 2010 until February 2013, he served as Vice President – Legal. In February 2013, he was promoted to Senior Vice President – General Counsel. Prior to joining Sunstone, he was engaged in the private practice of law in San Diego. Mr. Sloan holds a B.S. degree from Ball State University and a J.D. degree (cum laude) from Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
Bill Tremper is a Founding Partner & Chief Operating Officer of Soul Community Planet, LLC
Prior to joining SCP, Mr. Tremper spent 28 years in the hospitality industry in operations, sales & marketing, property development and repositioning properties spanning the following roles:
Chief Marketing Officer for the Irvine Company’s resort division with revenues exceeding $300M and 11 business units including the Pelican Hill Resort, Fashion Island Hotel & Hotel Irvine, 3 golf courses and 11 marinas. During this 3 year tenor Mr. Tremper lead the $70M repositioning and rebranding of the former Four Seasons Newport Beach and Hyatt Irvine into independent lifestyle hotels. In addition he was responsible for a complete shift in the divisions digital commerce , growing on line business by 150% over 3 years.
Area Managing Director of operations with over sight and complete P&L responsibility for 5 boutique properties in Southern California and Arizona with revenues exceeding $100M with Joi de Vievre Hotels.
Vice President Sales and Marketing for SBE Entertainment with 5 Hotels and 30 restaurants, bars and nightclubs and revenues exceeding $250M. Brands include SLS Hotels (Beverly Hills, Las Vegas, Miami), Redbury Hollywood, Hyde, the Bazaar by Jose Andres, Katsuya Sushi, Cleo, Umami Burger and XIV by Michael Minna.
Vice President of Operations and Brand Development for the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, as one of the founding executives in developing the property he was responsible for pre-opening development of operations and brand creation for this $3.9 billion resort.
Vice President of Sales for W Hotels worldwide, instrumental in growing the brand from 3 to 20 hotels and revenues exceeding $400M.
Prior to 2000 Mr. Tremper held a variety of leadership roles with Hilton and Marriott in Southern California and Washington DC.
Mr. Tremper attended George Mason University and completed Cornell University's Executive Leadership Program.
